Among Thorns
About: Among Thorns
Most of the members of Among Thorns, (Matt Gilder, Darin Sasser, Brandon Eller, Gary Ishee and David Childress), who are originally from Texas, have been playing together for nearly 6 years. In 2001, they said good-bye to their lead singer, and a new lead vocalist Chad Jarnagin joined them, bringing new energy and creativity to their music, which is very much evident in their newly released third CD, DRAW NEAR.
among_thorns
"The changes have opened new doors for theband, inspiring them to explore more creative avenues with their music."
They started out being a band for a Bible study, becoming the house band for the Metro Bible Study in Houston, unknowingly beginning their 6 year music worship ministry that reaches out to not only high school and college Youth, but for an expanding audience of a variety of ages.
During these six years, the band feels that the Lord was busy preparing them for His service, growing their personal spirituality and musical abilities, so that in His timing they would be prepared to carry out their music ministry that He was calling them to become involved with.
Darin Sasser, Matt Gilder and Chad offer the following testimonies explaining the Lord's involvement in the band's development in these areas, in His perfect timing.
"I don't think any of us really planned to grow up and be worship leaders, but God changed the desires of all our hearts. After six years together, we're like family. God has polished and buffed and cut and pruned us to get us to the point in our lives where we know that music is just a vehicle that we can ride. It's just a small thing that God can use in us. " -Darin Sasser.
"God had everything to do with the timing of Among Thorns. People are so hungry right now. There are a lot of things happening that are drawing both kids and adults into worship. The biggest thing that keeps me going is watching people experiencing God in a new way".- Matt Gilder.
" God is working in us tangibly as well as spiritually. He has brought us songs that have not only come from a different place musically, but also from hearts that God has changed." - Chad Jarnagin.
Among Thorns Mission Statements:

Guitarist Darin Sasser - THE VISION OF THIS BAND IS TO REVEAL WHO GOD IS. "We never put a limit on what God can do. Our vision is to reach millions of people, and if this is the way God chooses to do it, then we are just going to be thankful and grateful for whatever He does. I pray that these songs will give something to people's hearts".
"When we step on the stage, we focus on the Lord - we don't focus on the praises of man. As we step onstage we want people to know that we are intimately involved with our Savior, and that ultimately we are not there to entertain them - we are there to worship Him together."
Matt Glider / keyboards - 1) Goal for the Body of Christ: "Our calling is also definitely to lead the body of Christ into worship. When God is lifted up, He draws men to Himself. "We're aiming at the body of Christ and bringing people into a new place of worship, maybe somewhere they haven't been before. We try to stretch the audience and get them to dig deeper It's hard to imagine worshiping and having God show up in the room and people not being changed."
2) Goal concerning those who are searching: "We don't have a big agenda. We just hear story after story from people that we meet each night. We've been doing this long enough to know that at each event, on each night, there is probably someone there who is at the end of their rope. People are hungry to know God, and if HE can use us to help lead those people to His throne, that's what we are called to do. We want to lead people into a deep-time of worship and intimacy before God."
Chad Jarnagin / lead vocalist: "We want to challenge believers to get to that place of awakening in worship where they just don't sing about God on a horizontal level but truly sing to Him. Our desire for the band is to have awakenings all across the country, that the Spirit really would move when we lead worship.

Although the pop/rock quintet hails from Nashville, Tenn., their die-hard tour morphs into the wild mission of "being one of the few Christian bands to take over the globe." All Star United's earth-trotting concert schedule - reminiscent of megasuperstars like U2 and the Rolling Stones - should come as no surprise given the title of the band's sophomore album, "International Anthems for the Human Race."

About Aly & AJ
Sister acting/singing duo Aly & AJ -- whose full names are Alyson and Amanda Joy Michalka -- showed a passion for both kinds of performing at a very young age: they started playing piano at age six and began acting classes soon after. Born in Los Angeles, the Michalkas moved to Seattle in the early '90s, where their parents exposed them to a wide variety of music and supported their excitement about both acting and making music. As the girls learned piano and guitar, they also landed acting and modeling gigs, which prepared them to pursue both careers more seriously once the family returned to southern California.

Things were looking good, but then a record deal with Sony fell through and Altizer ditched L.A. and took his family to Nashville. Here he hooked up with KMG, a small Christian rock label, and released two records.

About Newsong

NewSong started out 20 years ago as a 9 member church band for Morningside Baptist Church in Valdosta, GA. Founding member, Billy Goodwin, explains the group's faith attitude, "The commitment that we made was, 'God, we'll do this as long as Your hand is on it, as long as we see You working.' One of the joys in my walk has been learning that God is faithful even when things look impossible."
Throughout the years, and changes in the group, they have had

The young quartet from Mandeville, Louisiana randomly found each other while perusing in a record store. After talking for a bit, they started playing together and then soon found themselves practicing up to three days a week. Seven months and thirteen concerts later, they signed a record deal with Wind-Up Records. Three months later, they released their self-titled first album. Darlene Zschech

 Darlene Zschech

Australian Darlene Zschech is acclaimed all over the world as a singer, songwriter, worship leader and speaker, most notably for her involvement in the music from Hillsong Church, Sydney over many years. Although she has achieved numerous gold albums and her songs are sung in many nations of the world, her success simply stands as a testimony to her life's passion to serve God and people with all her heart. Darlene along side her husband Mark are the Senior Pastors of Hope Unlimited Church on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia.

As a songwriter, Darlene is perhaps most famous for the chorus "Shout to the Lord," a song that is sung by an estimated 25 to 30 million churchgoers every week and has been covered by at least twenty other artists. Shout to the Lord was nominated as Album of the Year for the 1997 Dove Awards and was nominated as Song of the Year for the 1998 Dove Awards. In 2000 Darlene received a Dove Award nomination for Songwriter of the Year and received the International Award for influence in praise and worship.

In addition to "Shout to the Lord," Darlene has written over eighty songs that have been published by Hillsong Music Australia alone. In 2005 Darlene released another album Change Your World, which features a new arrangement of Michael W. Smith's worship song "Agnus Dei". Involved in the Compassionart project 2008, she was so honoured to be allowed the privilege of writing with some of the most generous-hearted worship writers and leaders of our day. Darlene is also passionate about raising and training other worship teams and writers, and has written three books which include Extravagant Worship, The Kiss of Heaven, and her new book The Great Generational Transition. These three titles combined have been translated into 19 different languages.

Many years ago Mark and Darlene made a life commitment to do whatever they could to bring answer and relief to human suffering, and one of their great joys in life is to work with Compassion International, serving the world's poorest of the poor children.

It was a Compassion trip to Central Africa in 2004 that prompted Mark and Darlene to initiate HOPE: Rwanda, a global endeavor designed to bring hope to a nation seemingly forgotten since the horrific genocide of 1994. The 100 Days of Hope (April 6 - July 15, 2006) project was strategically coordinated to cover the same 100 days that saw approximately 1 million people viciously slaughtered.

HOPE: Rwanda continues to bring hope and healing to Rwanda, and a new 'HOPE' has spread into Cambodia. The HOPE team are excited about all the future endeavours that continue to gather great momentum.

Darlene and Mark live on the Central Coast with their three daughters, Chloe and Zoe, Amy and son-in-law Andrew, their beautiful grand-daughter Ava Pearl and their handsome new grandson Roman Emmanuel Mark. While they travel extensively and have the honor of working and ministering alongside amazing friends around the globe, family remains Darlene's supreme delight. As she says, "First and foremost I am a woman who simply and wholeheartedly loves Christ, and serves Him through loving my family, serving the church, and speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves."
